Of mixed up signals
by: Brynn Gilbreath

mixed up signals
like sirens in the night
blaring in shrills and shrieks

loud and long
they break the silence
of calm and quiet slumber

hearts and minds fall silent
knowing only what is theirs
when missinterpreted sirens
break the silence
of calm and quite slumber

meant to be nothing more
than whispers and joyous laughter
are morphed in the minds of many
as shrills and shrieks of sirens

the signals arent so clear
it seems
as one might oft emit

but rather
missunderstood
expounded and transformed

in the minds of many
sirens they become
breaking the silence
of calm and quiet slumber
awakening the hearts of man

be careful for your whispers
are often heard as sirens
your laugher often confused
as shrills and shrieks
that break the silence
of calm and quiet slumber

your calm and quiet slumber
interrupted by shrills and shreiks

Wanting More

I want the fanfair
the pomp and circumstance

I want the formalities
and regal parties

I want the recognition
the admiration

I want the fun
the laughter
the joyous celebrations

I want to be carefree
I want the happiness

I want to be fulfilled
I want the storybook endings

Storybook Endings

No one lives like the movies
and fairytales are only stories
but what does it take to feel it;
to make them realities?

Little girls dream to be princesses,
and boys to hit homeruns
but life takes over
and girls and boys grow up

Spinning in circles, floating on air
and dancing in fields of green
become chasing a career
and worrying about whats to come

what happens to our inner child?
how do fairytales come true?
how do storybook endings
make it into the story of real life?

Struggle
by: Brynn Gilbreath

confusion
an internal struggle
what is right and what is true

searching for answers,
yet no source
none other than my own and my God

a wrestling match
to defend myself
my reasons and my rationale

yet the match is with myself
a fight of good and evil
a fight of deception

satan
the author of lies
the master of deception

tempting,
sugar-coating ideas
to make them seem sweet

but by faith,
decisions are made
and sound judgement will reign

for the best advise
i have already recieved

when in doubt; look up

Divided
by: Brynn Gilbreath

Separated by time,
by space, by distance
by circumstance.
so far apart,
when it's supposed to be so close
close feels right
the stars are aligned
the earth stands still
and all is right
when I am close to you
by your side, in your arms
feeling your warmth
the security of your body,
near mine.
A wall,
a barrier, the divide.
out of place
can it be bridged?
or torn down?
Somehow~
do away with the division,
with the separation.
Things happen for a reason
but what?
What is this mysterious path we are on?
Bridge the divide

Care to Join Me?
by Brynn Gilbreath

I'm pure
and that's surprising to you?
what is it i said?
what did i do?
I'm strong and steadfast
not easily persuaded
I think we see eye to eye
only not yet
But i dream of it
You're the same
so why is it so shocking of me?
I told you that I am not a box
I'm conservative yet free
I like to think it respectable...
and I'm glad that you too
share the same view
It's tough in this world
but I'm up for the challenge.
Care to join me?

No "What- if"'s
by Brynn Gilbreath

Why do you play the "what if" game?
let the illustration lie
it is presented
leave it unchanged
argue your point
get on your soap box
but leave the "what if"'s out
No need for situation ethics
You'll only travel
in a very large circle
You are not philosophical
You are not deep
You are not intellectual
merely a stupid educated person,
who only knows the things you know
and believes the things you believe
because you were taught
No investigation
No probing
No digging deeper
You sadly lie on the surface
wasting away
like a decomposing carcass

Hmmm...
by Brynn Gilbreath

There you sit, dozing
I'm sorry I can't keep your interest
Dont expect the norm
Look around
sometimes there is change
It keeps things interresting
Possibly keeps you awake
Makes you question
and makes you go "hmm..."

Your stalling is amusing
habitual
but I'm guilty too
such a bad influence
yet in such a good way
entertaining

Dark Devil's Advocate
strike a nerve
pierce a heart
question judgement
and cause a ruckus
no innocence
no naiveté
it doesnt suit your style

ON WRITING:
Rain-hater: i dont write...so i dont know the 'rules' if u will
Angel: there are no rules.
you just put the pen to the paper and pour yourself onto the page.
Angel ]: no thinking .... just letting things flow
Rain-Hater: what if i drip on the floor?
