not an original of mine.. but its poignant:
Side by Side
They lie on the table side by side
the Holy Bible and the TV guide
One is well worn but cherished with pride
No not the Bible, its the TV guide
As the pages are turned what shall they see,
oh what does it matter turn on the TV
The confussion reigns, they cant all agree
on what they sould watch on the old TV
So they open the book in which they confide
No not the Bible, the TV guide
The word of God is seldom read
maybe a verse and they fall into bed
exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be
not from reading the Bible, from watching TV
So then back to the table, side by side
the Holy Bible and the TV guide
No time for prayers
No time for the Word
The plan of salvation is rarely heard
But time for forgivness of sin so full and free
is found in the Bible, not on TV

In Search Of
**dedicated to my new source of inspiration...WOW!!. thank you Caleb
By Brynn Gilbreath
I thought I was escaping the sheltered and cynical
A close-minded domain
In search of the artistic, euphoric and free.
A journey of miles and separation from the familiar
To search my heart and dreams and ambitions
To find a change and relish an experience
I arrive only to find that things are the same.
Different on the surface but philosophically the same
Once this was noted, a new journey began
It became a more internal search
A need to reconnect, a desire for balance and reflection
Yet obscurity, spontaneity and self realization
It took the wisdom and strength of a warrior
To point the way
To start me on my internal journey and struggle with the psuché
The freedom and majesty of an eagle to remind me how to fly
And sour to new heights
The intensity of thunder to remind me
Of the power that comes from thoughts and words
So to my thunderous, soaring warrior, I am forever grateful
A teacher in your own right.
Showing me that sometimes the things you are in search of,
Are closer than you think
It just takes closing your eyes and opening your heart
And giving in to the seduction of your soul.
Be Real
By: Brynn Gilbreath
Prick my finger and become more real,
You thorn inside my flesh.
Your beauty mirrors perfection, yet only to the naive eye
Your touch is poison, a biting serpent
You pierce and rip and tear my flesh to shreds
Your sweet aroma is intoxicating and
Your appearance so vibrantly powerful
Why do you present yourself as a passionate lover
While at the same time you accompany death?
For the euphoric lovers, you are an angel
A beacon of light, expression of hope and joy
And everlasting adoration
For the realist you are a shadowy reminder of the life that has gone on
A soul that has been taken away
So take off your mask of precious innocence and mesmerizing beauty
And become more real.
Prick my finger, tear my flesh
And let me put to death the passion that I attribute to you.
For when you don’t appear to affirm that passion,
My heart is broken and may as well
Be that which receives your “shadowy reminder”
Unless you are sterling, depart from me because you are two faced
Be honest, don’t pretend perfection and innocence
And then I’ll return you to your pedestal.
Innocence
By: Brynn Gilbreath
A white sheet, a spotless lamb
Childlike dreams and gazing at the stars
Stretching out your arms and spinning so fast
The newly fallen snow and the early morning dew
Innocence
The purity that accompanies naïveté
A dependency
The questioning, inquisitive mind that seeks honest knowledge
The sheltered, the hopelessly romantic and occasionally idealistic
Not clearly perfection but a desire to be
Innocence
A new born baby or an autumn sunset
Man and woman before the fall
A rainbow, the whole of nature and a newly budding rose
Innocence
Katéa
By Brynn Gilbreath
She wears a façade, a mask of a sort.
One day it’s this, one day it’s that.
She’s hidden, cut off from reality.
But by choice
Some truly know her... others speculate
She’s distant, yet close, open yet shut off
Her life is simple, yet wildly complicated
To the world she has it completely together
She’s talent, she’s euphoric,
She’s unchangingly stable
She’s loved and supported
Desired and envied
But is she really so fortunate?
People make assumptions, true,
But do they know the full story?
She’s scared and so alone
Frustrated and pushed
She’s taken advantage of,
Walked upon
She’s lacking in wisdom and knowledge and love
She has walls and barriers
Because she’s been hurt
She needs and wants
And is totally vulnerable
But she hides it well
She’s grandiose yet meek and mild
She’s in a whirlwind, a tsunami
A tidal wave trying to stay afloat
She’s trying to make it,
Survive one more day
Love her or hate her;
You see her everyday.
You know the girl,
She’s angelic
She’s everyone’s friend,
But really she’s empty, afraid, and alone.
You wont know her or her situation
If she left, it’d be noticed but not really missed
Because there are thousands like her, everywhere.
Exposing their hearts to a select few, yet shutting out the majority.
Relish your time with her, she may not always be here,
Follow your heart, follow your dreams
Laugh. Love. Cry. Live…in ecstasy.
She’s intoxicating
Imagine
By: Brynn Gilbreath
Shes broken yet recovering, betrayed and searching.
Shes honest to a fault… but has to be to protect herself.
She breathes and lives yet pours out her pain.
Its release, its harmony, its soothing.
Its scary, its complicated, yet very simple
Its freedom, its control, yet spiraling out of control
She moves and loves and expresses her voice.
Shes solid and stable; shes searching inside.
Looking for meaning, looking for answers
Bleeding and yearning…divided
Shes advice, shes wisdom
Shes trusted, and strong
Yet shes human
With thoughts, feelings, emotions, confusion, drama and pain
Shes devotion and loyalty, honor and respect,
She’ll stand by you but stand distant
Shes there but shes away
Its picking up where she left off with the greatest of ease
She’s strength and endurance, Weakness and vulnerable
But regardless shes a gift, a blessing
A blooming flower, an emerging butterfly
Shes bright and vibrant yet dark and mysterious
She is herself. Do not question or second-guess
She will not change for you, for anyone.
She’s practical yet obscure and spontaneous
If you cant accept her ways, don’t bother
Love her, nurture her, protect her
But back off. Give her space.
Let her blossom, let her fly.
She was born to fly
Shes mystical and irrational, defying logic and reason
Don’t try to categorize her or stereotype her, you’ll be wrong
Just let her be.
She’ll surprise and amaze you
Be prepared…you’ll be marveled.
Imagine
Caleb
by: Brynn Gilbreath
Like an eagle he flies, and soars above rational thinking
He’s mystery, and control
Creative and insightful
He stirs up the cosmos and creates thunder and fire
He’s passion and freedom
Intense and invigorating
To analyze is futile, there’s too much complexity.
He’s depth and thought
And stimulates the mind
He is outside the box and cannot be categorized
Open to interpretation
Out on a limb
Flying… or just falling with style
Laughing. Breathing. Thinking.
He’s expression and light
Mystery and hope
Distant and satellite yet closer than a brother
He’s broad but focused
People see him and discount his ideas
Write it off as “different”
Only the wise take it all in
and value the wealth of knowledge and Ideas he provides
however there is something more.
Something is missing
Time will reveal, maybe
There has to be more to this story
He’s either hiding something or just hasn’t exposed his soul
He understands and advises…seems wise.
He’s talent and eclectic.
Beyond words and description
He brings light to life and stimulates emotion
The feeling of a whirlwind
Zero gravity…. floating
Its empowerment and revelry
The calm before the storm
Accept. Reject. Speculate and grow…
In wisdom, emotion, and spirituality
See life through childlike curiosity
Its spontaneous
A mustang thundering through open terrain.
Wind in your hair
The stars. The moon. The heavens….an eclipse
The cosmos, a mover, a shaker…eccentric
Theres more… too overwhelming…WOW
